El domingo 21 de julio, la Centenary UMC de Memphis organiz\u00f3 un memorial<\/span>\u00a0celebraci\u00f3n por la vida y el legado del\u00a0Rev. Dr.\u00a0James<\/span>\u00a0M.\u00a0Lawson<\/span>Jr.<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

En la d\u00e9cada de 1960, el papel de Centenary en la comunidad fue vital, liderado por su p\u00e1rroco de 33 a\u00f1os, el reverendo Dr. James Lawson, Jr. El Dr. Lawson ense\u00f1\u00f3 t\u00e1cticas de no violencia a los l\u00edderes del movimiento nacional y dirigi\u00f3 muchas sentadas del movimiento. Se inst\u00f3 a los miembros j\u00f3venes de la iglesia a convertirse en activistas sociales y, al estar comprometidos con la acci\u00f3n, hicieron contribuciones duraderas a la causa. El miembro de Centenary, Robert Lewis, Jr. prepar\u00f3 el cuerpo del Dr. King para su entierro, en su funeraria de Vance Street. Tras la tr\u00e1gica muerte del Dr. King, varias agencias de noticias nacionales retransmitieron al mundo los servicios religiosos de Centenary.
