Desde hace varios a\u00f1os, he hablado con ustedes y en mis conferencias anteriores sobre estas profundas divisiones y las dolorosas formas en que afectan a nuestras comunidades, nuestras iglesias e incluso nuestras familias. En los \u00faltimos d\u00edas, estas divisiones han vuelto a quedar al descubierto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tenemos entendido que la Guardia Nacional pronto ser\u00e1 desplegada en Memphis, Tennessee. En nuestra conferencia, al igual que en todo el pa\u00eds, los creyentes tienen opiniones divergentes sobre este acontecimiento. Para muchos, esto plantea preocupaciones sobre la escalada, el miedo y la desconfianza entre las comunidades y aquellos llamados a protegerlas. Debemos reconocer que estos momentos pueden ahondar las divisiones existentes y suscitar emociones fuertes, incluso entre aquellos que practican el culto codo con codo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La semana pasada fuimos testigos del tr\u00e1gico asesinato de un conocido activista pol\u00edtico mientras conversaba con estudiantes universitarios. Y una vez m\u00e1s, nuestra naci\u00f3n llora otro tiroteo en una escuela, esta vez en los suburbios de Denver, Colorado. Estos sucesos nos afligen profundamente. Tambi\u00e9n tienen el poder de ampliar la distancia que nos separa si no tenemos cuidado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Como metodistas unidos, hist\u00f3ricamente nos hemos opuesto a la injusticia en todas sus formas. Nuestra fe nos obliga a decir la verdad, a buscar la misericordia y a actuar con valent\u00eda. Pero, lo que es igualmente importante, nuestro Se\u00f1or Jesucristo nos llama a ser pacificadores. En un mundo de ira y sospecha, debemos ser instrumentos de paz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Os imploro, por tanto, que viv\u00e1is esta llamada. Traspasad las l\u00edneas que con demasiada frecuencia nos dividen: pol\u00edticas, raciales, geogr\u00e1ficas o incluso confesionales. Sentaos con alguien que no se parezca a vosotros, que no vote como vosotros o que no rece como vosotros. Escucha con compasi\u00f3n. Extiende la gracia. Ni\u00e9gate a permitir que la historia de nuestra naci\u00f3n se escriba s\u00f3lo en t\u00e9rminos de odio y violencia. Nuestros laicos y cl\u00e9rigos est\u00e1n llamados a ser l\u00edderes espirituales en sus comunidades, modelando el camino de Cristo a trav\u00e9s de la oraci\u00f3n, la presencia y la acci\u00f3n. Se trata de una prioridad de discipulado de la Conferencia y, por tanto, de suma importancia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bfC\u00f3mo podr\u00edas asumir la responsabilidad de cambiar la narrativa de este pa\u00eds? \u00bfC\u00f3mo podr\u00edas dar testimonio del amor reconciliador de Cristo en un mundo roto y cansado?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El ap\u00f3stol Pablo nos lo recuerda en Romanos 12:18, <em>\"Si es posible, en la medida en que dependa de ti, vive en paz con todos\".<\/em> Esto es a la vez un reto y una promesa. Es un reto porque la paz requiere esfuerzo, sacrificio y humildad. Pero tambi\u00e9n es una promesa, porque cuando damos incluso peque\u00f1os pasos hacia la paz, Dios los multiplica por el bien del Reino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Que Dios nos conceda la valent\u00eda de defender la justicia, la paciencia de escuchar m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de las divisiones y la sabidur\u00eda de ser instrumentos de paz. Y que la paz de Cristo, que sobrepasa todo entendimiento, guarde vuestros corazones y mentes en estos d\u00edas. El alcalde de Memphis, Paul Young, declar\u00f3 en su conferencia de prensa del 12 de septiembre que todos debemos unirnos, independientemente de nuestras diferencias. Anim\u00f3 a la comunidad de Memphis a centrarse en continuar el buen trabajo que se ha hecho en los dos \u00faltimos a\u00f1os para convertir a Memphis en una gran ciudad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Que los Metodistas Unidos nos enfoquemos en amar a Dios, amar a la gente y buscar ser pacificadores.
