Summary

Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Children’s Ministries, work to provide a year-round children’s ministry program to include weekly and seasonal events and activities. Works collaboratively with the Director of Children’s Ministries, clergy, other staff, and lay committees to build a safe, supportive, inspiring environment, along with a continuity of programming that supports the spiritual and emotional growth of students in grades 3-5.

Responsibilities

Recruit, train, and lead volunteers for VBS and annual/seasonal activities.

Direct and implement curriculum for one division of Vacation Bible School (grades 3-5).

In cooperation with Director of Children’s Ministries, coordinate special events for elementary children such as Advent Workshop, 3rd Grade Bible Retreat, 4/5 Grade Retreat, and Fall Festival.

Help coordinate recognition and appreciation of children’s ministry volunteers.

Coordinate supplies needed for Sunday morning Kids Quest small group lessons.

Engage the Children’s Council in all aspects of children’s ministry.

Be visible and available on Sundays and Wednesday nights to the volunteers, parents, and children in the elementary area.

Be visible, available, and present at special programming including, but not limited to, Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Festival, Advent Workshop, Children’s Alternative Christmas, Journey to Bethlehem, Christmas Eve Service for Children, Ignite Retreat, Mission Camp, Music & Arts Camp, Dodgeball, Mission & Movie Monday.

Interpret and counsel parents regarding children’s issues, including developmental or disciplinary issues.

Ensure that registration data is current on all children involved in children’s ministry programs.

Ensure that the Safe Sanctuaries Policy of GUMC is followed in all children’s ministry programs.

Envision and develop new nurturing programs involving children as the needs of the congregation require.
