Job Title: Business Administrator 

Type: Part-time, non-exempt 

Hours: 20-25 hours per week; hours are flexible during normal weekday business hours; some remote work may be coordinated with your supervisor 

Reports to: Senior Pastor. All positions ultimately are under the leadership of the Senior Pastor and the Connection Leadership Board (CLB) 

Summary: Connection United Methodist Church aims to be an inclusive, God-centered community seeking to embody hospitality and serve authentically. The Bookkeeper and Office Administrator supports this mission by handling the day-to-day financial and administrative tasks of the church. 


Managing Budget and Donor Gifts (35%) 

  • Process, record, and deposit cash, check, ACH, stock, and online donations to the church’s general operating fund, as well as to a myriad of special offerings and projects; enter these gifts in our Church Management Software system as well as our accounting general ledger 
  • Provide donor support by answering phone calls and emails from congregation members about their giving; send out annual giving reports to donors; help foster positive donor relationships 
  • Work with the Senior Pastor and CLB on the annual stewardship campaign ● Record bank transfers into the church’s general ledger 
  • Send out monthly budget reports to staff and CLB 
  • Enter the annual budget into the accounting system 

Accounts Payable (25%): 

  • Enter all invoices and reimbursements into the accounts payable module of the church’s financial software in an accurate and timely manner 
  • Coordinate approval and budget account assignment with all expenses ● Stuff, mail, or distribute signed checks 
  • Maintain an up-to-date accounts payable filing system 
  • Manage payroll for church staff including annual tax forms 

Administrative Tasks (25%) 

  • Coordinates communications, mailings, facilities use, and church calendar ● Commitment to be in ministry to meet needs that may be received via phone calls and/or contacts with church members and visitors and members of the community
  • Attends biweekly staff meetings; monthly board meetings; and other meetings as required 
  • Oversees management of the church database for staff and church members ● Provides general IT support to staff and church members 
  • Prepare weekly bulletins for worship and occasional bulletins for special services ● Order office supplies as requested by Senior Pastor, staff, and CLB members ● Work with Senior Pastor and CLB to complete Charge Conference/end of year reports ● Other duties as assigned 

Properties Management (15%) 

  • Serves as a liaison between the church and the facilities contracts (lawn, elevator, etc.). ● Tracks and oversees financial and other contracts 
  • Works with staff and lay leaders to develop and administer policies and procedures concerning the use of all church properties and facilities 
  • Advises the CLB on insurance needs of the church and ensures appropriate coverage 


  • Technology proficiency required; PC (Windows) systems, email, office productivity software (Microsoft Office and Google Suite), Church Management Systems, and other web-based technology 
  • Attention to detail, strong problem solving skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with a wide variety of people; and work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and congregation members ● Handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality 
  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred 
  • General knowledge of The United Methodist Church preferred 

Working Conditions: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in an office environment. The position is mostly sedentary and the employee is required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and sit. The employee must occasionally lift or move office supplies or other items up to 25 pounds. The employee must be able to use standard office equipment.
