Iglesia Metodista Unida Ebenezer
6200 Roberson Avenue, Nashville, TN, 37209
Director of Development of Church and Community Ministries
Job Description
This is a new part-time position that will serve a small Hispanic United Methodist Church located in northwest Nashville, Tennessee. There are approximately 100 church members with 35 percent of the congregation being children and youth. The church service is conducted in Spanish and the congregation has limited English proficiency. The families faithfully support this 13- year- old church with gifts and talents. The position reports to the pastor, Myriam Cortés, who is Ebenezer’s sole employee and a well-known advocate in the UMC and in the regional Hispanic/Latino community.
A partnership of churches and community groups is working with Ebenezer to develop plans and identify financial resources to support the congregation long-term. Currently ESL classes are offered in the evening with childcare provided. Expansion of child development opportunities is an important role of the new position. The long-term goal is to establish a stand-alone building adjacent to the church to serve as a child development center and a community gathering place (La Placita).

The job has a flexible 20-hour week with hours determined by need and scheduled activities; however, it’s possible funding growth could transform the position to full-time in the future.
The Director of Church and Community Ministries position will be key to growing the La Placita partnership by 1) identifying and speaking to community and church groups, writing grants, and developing financial and in-kind contributions and, 2) developing, with the Advisory group and congregation, the immediate goals for 2025 and the long-term goals to meet the congregation’s needs. An additional responsibility may be communication related to recent policy changes on the federal and state levels.
