About Us
Blackman UMC (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) is a vibrant congregation which currently averages approximately 125 people in weekly worship services and is steadily increasing toward our pre-Covid weekly average of approximately 200. Murfreesboro is a fast-growing community of 150,000+ people, approximately 30 minutes to the southeast of Nashville on Interstate 24. It is also the home of Middle Tennessee State University, the largest undergraduate university in Tennessee.

Overview
The Director of Youth Ministries is a full-time position, responsible for managing a holistic program of Christian education & spiritual formation for an active group of youth in grades 6-12. Currently the weekly average youth attendance is approximately 20 youth who are a dynamic part of the congregation. This position should provide the framework for building a firm spiritual foundation for our youth through Sunday school classes, weekly youth group meetings, retreats, mission trips and other youth/family activities.

Responsibilities (these include, but are not limited to)
• Connect and build meaningful relationships with youth and their parents while at church and out in our community and/or schools.
• Welcome and help incorporate new youth and families into Blackman UMC.
• Communicate events and activities through the worship bulletin, newsletter, church website, e-mail, social media, and/or other means with the help of our administrative assistant.
• Attend staff meetings, Church Council meetings, and other necessary church meetings as needed.
• Report to the Pastor who is responsible for day-to-day oversight of the staff.
• Adhere to Safe Sanctuary Policies and Procedures and must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Oversee and manage an annual youth ministry budget. Organize and execute any necessary fundraising to support the youth ministry.
• Coordinate and lead (teach or facilitate) all weekly Sunday evening programs for youth throughout the year, assist in providing a formative Sunday School experience, and organize other special programs/events in a way consistent with United Methodist/Wesleyan beliefs (i.e. retreats, an annual mission trip, annual Youth Sunday Worship, etc.).
• Coordinate youth participation in events sponsored by United Methodist conferences or connections (i.e. Warmth-in-Winter, Resurrection, Summer Sizzler, etc.).
• Recruit, train, and motivate volunteers.
• Lead and partner with a council of youth and youth parents on a regular basis.

Qualifications
– Have a personal, committed relationship to Christ and a love of children/youth.
– Be familiar with and embrace United Methodist/Wesleyan doctrine & theology.

The ideal candidate will:
– Be passionate to create a positive, nurturing spiritual environment by assuming a role of Christian leader.
– Be self-directed, highly independent and able to see tasks through to completion.
– Be able to function as a team player and maintain positive, healthy working relationships.
– Be adept at inspiring and directing youth, their families and volunteers.
– Have excellent organizational, planning, goal-setting, and time management skills.
– Be able to work within and maintain an annual budget and perform necessary fundraising tasks.
– Have at least 2 years’ experience and/or certification in youth ministry or related field.
– Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Be proficient with Microsoft Office software, social media platforms and e-mail.

Compensation commensurate with education and experience.
