Position Summary
Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (GSUMC) is seeking a Minister of Youth Ministries and Communications. This is a full-time position that directly oversees and provides all spiritual leadership, organization and creative support for leading the Youth Group, 7th -12th grade (GS 4:12 Youth) and supports the entire GSUMC Ministries’ communications needs.
Qualified applicants will model a life of faithful service to God. As Youth Minister, create opportunities for the youth to connect and grow in their relationships with God and people, go and serve God through missions and outreach in our community and in the world. As Communications Minister, create and maintain all aspects of social media. This position reports to the Staff Parish Relations Team for administrative duties and will take functional supervision from the Lead Pastor.

Hours/ Salary/Probationary Term
The Youth and Communications Minister at Good Shepherd UMC is a full- time position. This employee is expected to be present with the Youth on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings; attend church staff meetings, and spend other time with the Youth and prepare for Youth programs/activities; maintain the church website, manage all social media platforms, communicate electronically with the congregation and community. The average work week will be 36 hours a week, more or less depending on activities. Salary between $38,000.00 – $42,000.00 commensurate with experience.

The first ninety (90) days of employment will be considered a probationary period in order to assess the progress of the Youth program under the supervision of the Youth Minister’s direction.

Spiritual Expectations & Education Development
The Youth and Communications Minister is:
• a spiritual leader and is expected to be a committed follower of Jesus Christ, with a servant’s heart and the ability to teach and mentor as well as build community with the youth and connect them within the greater GSUMC community of believers.
• growing in their personal faith by regularly practicing spiritual disciplines (prayer, devotion, scripture reading) and being in prayer for the youth, their families and GSUMC.
• will attend at least one education opportunity as recommended by the Lead Pastor or SPRC in consultation with their job, and read at least two job related books each year.

Other Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Ensure that Safe Sanctuary policies are met for all youth programs and events and keep records of Safe Sanctuary certified volunteers on file and up to date. Adherence to Safe Sanctuary policies strictly required.
• Ensure a database of records is kept of student information, including contact information for students and parents, and medical permission and release forms.
• Promote the GS 4:12 Youth program by the use of technology including social media. (Including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, e-mail, text messaging, etc.)
• Possess strong delegation and organizational skills.
• Oversee the youth department budget, equipment, organization and volunteers and help implement the long-term vision of the youth ministry.
• Be present with youth in Worship Service unless ill or out of town.
