A decade ago, United Methodist Churches in Nashville began the United Methodist Build for Habitat for Humanity in Davidson County. The Build was a result of the growth in the participating congregations in the Unity (Interfaith) Build that began in 1998.
This year brings us to a new effort with Habitat. Instead of building one house we will be helping to build condominiums this fall (September and October). We will have a family to sponsor and get to know as well.
The leadership team is reaching out to other Methodist churches, hoping to create a “Pan-Methodist Build” experience. This includes inviting other United Methodist Churches to join the effort this year by providing volunteers and funds.
We will need a total of 160 volunteers across 7 days and also raise $63,000. No minimum number of volunteers or donations are required.
For more information, email Vin Walkup (vincentwalkup@att.net), Kim and Carol McDonough (kimandcarolmcdo@comcast.net), or Stacey Harwell-Dye (sharwelldye@westendumc.org).
An online meeting will be held on April 15 for coordinators and clergy to learn more about the Build.
