Session 1

Writing a Good Story

Tuesday, February 9, 1pm CST

Whether it is sharing a story with your community or with your annual conference, the first step is learning to tailor your message to resonate with the audience.

In this workshop, we will explore the key basics of storytelling through writing, the power of story, in addition to how and why it is important for local churches to share their stories.

Facilitator: Heather Hahn, UM News Reporter

Heather Hahn is an award-winning reporter, who has worked for United Methodist News for 10 years. She previously edited the Arkansas Conference newspaper and before that, worked as a reporter and editor at city newspapers across the U.S. She is grateful that United Methodists live out their faith in so many ways that she never lacks for stories to tell.

Session 2

Digital Storytelling

Tuesday, February 16, 1pm CST

How can churches tell their story using digital media?

Learn how to move from a reactive approach to a proactive communication strategy in a digital space. During our time together, we will explore how to leverage technology to close the gap and increase connection with your community in an increasingly digital world.

Ryan Dunn

Facilitator: Ryan Dunn – Minister of Online Engagement

Ryan Dunn is United Methodist Communication’s Minister of Online Engagement for Rethink Church, where he has received awards for podcast production, content development and experiential marketing campaigns. Prior to serving with UMCom, he worked in local churches as a youth minister, in online marketing for United Airlines, and in radio production. He is an ordained deacon and enjoys weekend hikes with his family, creating online content cheaply, and training to dunk a basketball.

Session 3

Your Church Website

Tuesday, February 23, 1pm CST

A church website is a vital tool to help ministries tell stories of faith and share messages.

In this session, we will identify key components for building an effective website strategy. Additionally, we will give ideas on how UMCom can help launch a church website that engages members and seekers.
