Spend a beautiful fall morning at Green Hill Cemetery UMC Historic Site – where Francis Asbury and other circuit riders gathered, and the 1808 Annual Conference was held. On Monday morning, November 10, you can help preserve history by learning how to safely clean historic headstones, including those of Rev. Green Hill and his family, in preparation for America’s 250th Birthday Celebration.

Rev. Hill was a Revolutionary War veteran and early Tennessee settler who played a key role in spreading Methodism throughout our region.

TWKUMC owns the Green Hill Cemetery located in Brentwood, TN, and is responsible for its upkeep, which is handled by the TWKC Archives & History.

The Brentwood Historic Commission approached our team about their project to clean headstones in this cemetery because they are honoring Rev. Green Hill’s Revolutionary War service and the eight other Revolutionary War veterans buried in Brentwood as part of their America’s 250th celebration.

TWK volunteers who receive this training can help their churches maintain the headstones in their own historic cemeteries.

The materials used to clean headstones are specific and expensive. Since the Historic Commission is offering those, and additional folks to help, for free, this is a great opportunity!
