Purpose: The Director of Children’s Ministry inspires and equips children, families, and volunteers to grow in faith together. Overseeing ministry for birth through 5th grade, this leader develops engaging programs and Christ-centered experiences that help kids learn, serve, and thrive as disciples of Jesus. The position combines creativity, leadership, and care to build a strong spiritual foundation for the next generation.

Responsabilidades del puesto:

Ministry Leadership & Oversight

  • Develop and implement a Christ-centered vision and strategy for children’s ministry aligned with the church’s overall mission.
  • Lead age-appropriate programs including Sunday School, Children’s Worship, Seasonal Events (e.g., Vacation Bible School, Christmas programs, Easter events), and outreach initiatives.
  • Maintain strong presence with congregation by leading the children’s sermon (Word and Wonder) during service.
  • Ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for children and families.

Teaching & Discipleship

  • Lead the selection of, and adaptations of biblically sound curriculum for each age group.
  • Present Bible truths in engaging, age-appropriate ways that encourage personal application.
  • Encourage children to participate in worship, prayer, service, and evangelism.

Volunteer Recruitment & Training

  • Recruit, screen, and train volunteers to serve in the children’s ministry.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, encouragement, and resources to volunteers.
  • Coordinate schedules and systems for volunteer teams, finding substitutes as needed.

Family Engagement

  • Partner with parents and guardians to equip them for spiritual leadership in the home.
  • Build meaningful relationships with children and families through individualized and personal communications.
  • Communicate regularly with families about ministry activities, resources, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to highlight outcomes and impact of children’s events.
  • Offer parenting resources.

Administration & Organization

  • Maintain accurate attendance records and safety protocols.
  • Work with the Safe Sanctuary Committee to ensure all volunteers are trained annually, adhere to the church’s “Safe Sanctuary Policy” and have regular background checks.
  • Manage children’s ministry budget and resources.
  • Coordinate with other ministry leaders, including the Children’s Council, Recreation Committee, Youth Director, and Intergenerational Activities Coordinator for joint events and church-wide initiatives.
  • Attend Children’s Council, Education Committee, Program Planning Committee and Church Council meetings.
  • Perform self-reviews and provide quarterly progress reports/updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Outreach & Community Impact

  • Engage activities with the St. Luke’s Day School by leading Chapel and participating in other programming as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Recreational Committee, St. Luke’s Day School and Challengers After School Program to recruit players and coaches for recreational activities.
  • Develop outreach opportunities for children and families in the community.
  • Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and mission partners including the Campus Schools, and Sherwood Elementary.

 Cualificaciones

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ, evidence of spiritual maturity, and alignment with the church’s statement of faith.
  • Passion for ministering to children and families.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or appropriate experience in children’s ministry.
  • Ability to recruit, lead, and equip volunteers.
  • Preferred experience of managing a budget.
  • Background check required.

 Entorno laboral

  • Hybrid – works on-site Sundays and select weekdays for ministry programming and meetings, with flexibility to work remotely for lesson planning, communication, and administrative duties.
  • Involves both administrative office work and active, hands-on participation with children.
  • May include light lifting and physical activity during events.
