언덕 위의 연합감리교회의 날: 바늘을 움직인 존재

Submitted by the TWK Board of Church & Society

On Tuesday, February 10, more than 160 United Methodists from across Tennessee gathered at the Cordell Hull Legislative Office Building with courage, clarity, and conviction. Together, we met with more than 60 lawmakers, Republican and Democrat, new voices and seasoned leaders, sharing stories, lifting up concerns, and grounding every conversation in dignity, justice, and the common good.

What made the difference wasn’t volume, performance, or posturing, but presence, preparation, and curiosity. Participants came ready to listen as much as speak, to build bridges rather than burn them, and to remind our elected officials that faith communities are paying attention, not from the sidelines, but from the heart of public life. And it mattered.

Because of those meetings, harmful legislation that had been quietly moving forward is now being examined more closely, and bills that reflect our shared commitments to compassion, transparency, and human flourishing have gained new attention and, in some cases, new momentum. Lawmakers told us they appreciated respectful, thoughtful dialogue. Several asked for continued partnership. Doors opened.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, spoke up, and stood up. Yesterday was a testament to what is possible when we move together.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make this Day on the Hill a success, including the hospitality of McKendree United Methodist Church.
