Clark Memorial United Methodist Church Celebrates Beginning of New Affordable Housing Program

Clark Memorial UMC is bringing affordable housing options to its neighbors in North Nashville.

In response to the rapid gentrification of the area, the Clark Memorial UMC Community Development Corporation (CDC), a non-profit organization created by the congregation, constructed six family homes that sit on church-owned property. Initially envisioned years ago by then Clark Memorial UMC pastor, Rev. Dr. Herbert Lester, the construction of the homes is nearly complete.

The project received critical financial support from the United Methodist Foundation for the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference, which provided a $1.4 million loan to the Clark Memorial UMC CDC. The affordable housing initiative was also funded by the Barnes Housing trust fund through the City of Nashville, which provided $400,000.
