The Youth director plays a major role in the faith development of all ages within the church, both as a leader and as an example. FUMC seeks a person who has a solid understanding of the foundations of the Christian faith, United Methodist tradition, or is willing to learn, and who has a strong desire to nurture youth in the Christian faith. We seek a person who generates new ideas and programs who values a team concept of ministry.

Responsibilities:
 Spiritual Leadership: Oversee teaching biblical principles through Sunday school, Bible
studies, and large-group gatherings. Work in concert with the gifts and talents of other staff
members with a spirit of collaborative teamwork. Model a Christ-like lifestyle and encourage
students to develop a personal relationship with God.

 Program Development: Plan and execute weekly youth group meetings, seasonal camps,
retreats, and community service projects. Be aware of resources for developing the youth
ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities.
Coordinate and teach Confirmation classes in partnership with the pastor(s) and provide
leadership for confirmands, mentors, and parents beyond the classroom.

 Pastoral Care: Provide emotional support, spiritual guidance, and crisis intervention for teens
and their families. Advocate for youth and educate the congregation about the hopes,
concerns, and needs of youth in the local church and community. Build relationships outside
the church by attending students’ school events and extracurriculars.

 Volunteer Management: Recruit, train, and schedule adult volunteers. Ensure all volunteer
and youth programs comply with church policies including safety protocols, drug/alcohol
testing and background-check policies.

 Community: Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and
resources that relate to youth and youth ministries. Communicate in a timely manner and as
effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, social media, bulletin,
newsletter, bulletin board, etc.). Ensure communication with church staff and leadership,
parents, and the congregation.

 Family Collaboration: Partner with parents to create a supportive environment. Maintain
regular communication through emails, newsletters, and social media.

 Administration: Responsible to the Senior Pastor for day-to-day operations, Staff Parish
Committee for fulfilling responsibilities defined in the job description, defining goals, evaluation
and communication of concerns related to the performance of the position. Manage the youth
ministry budget, organize fundraisers, and ensure activities align with the broader vision of the

Hours/Salary: The Youth Ministry Director position requires flexible hours, including evenings and
weekends. This position(part-time) is salaried based upon 15-20 hours per week. The actual number
of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
It is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times of the year. Salary will be based on
experience and is intended to serve the applicant as supplemental income. Pay will be reviewed
annually.
