2-DAY Advanced Lay Servant Course Offered by the Purchase District

Topic: Transforming Evangelism

Laity and supply pastors from across the TWK UMC are welcome to attend an Advanced Lay Servant Course on Transforming Evangelism, led by B. Andrew Halford. Grounded in the teachings of John Wesley, this course explores relational evangelism as a way of sharing faith through connection, hospitality, and community, while also helping churches guide new believers along clear pathways of discipleship. It builds confidence and vision for evangelism, making it approachable and rooted in the Church’s call to make disciples for the transformation of the world.

Session 2—8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (CT) – Saturday (includes light breakfast and lunch)

What is a Lay Servant and Why Do We Need Them?
Lay Servants are to serve the local Church or Charge in any way that their witness or leadership and service inspires the laity to deeper commitment to Christ and more effective discipleship. This includes the interpretation of scriptures, doctrine, organization, and ministries of the church.

Prerequisite
Individuals must have completed the Basic Lay Servant Course.

To receive credit for the class, individuals must attend both days. An Advanced Course Training is required every 3 years to maintain Certified Lay Servant status.
