Youth Ministry Summer Intern Job Description

Objective of the Internship: This position exists for the mutual benefit of Bethlehem UMC and the intern. Bethlehem receives an individual who can offer their own set of skills, knowledge, interests, and passions to support and enhance our Bethlehem ministry. In turn, the intern receives the opportunity to learn and practice ministry in a safe and nurturing environment as the intern continues to discern a call to ministry and use their gifts.

Profile of the Intern

● Possesses a heart and passion for church ministry and for investing in others

● Possesses a genuine love for the youth and their families

● Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is evident in the way theyserve in the ministry here at BUMC

● Willing to work under the guidance of the Director of Youth Ministry with a spirit ofteamwork and a desire to reach a common goal for Christ

● Must be a high school graduate for at least two years

● Must pass a background check and adhere to Safe Spaces policy

Key Responsibilities

● Complete Safe Spaces training for the protection and safety of the youth and yourself; respect these guidelines at all times

● Develop personal relationships with youth and help to create a welcoming and inclusive culture

● Participate in the planning and implementation of Sunday programming

● Attend Sunday morning worship regularly

● Assists with and attends youth trips including out-of-town and other in-town orday trips

● Meet with the Director of Youth Ministries regularly for planning purposes

● Worship leading is a plus

● Other tasks at the direction of the DYM

Accountability Structure

The Youth Worship Intern is directly accountable to the Director of Youth Ministries who works under the Senior Pastor.

Schedule and Timing

Internship will begin Sunday, June 1, and conclude Friday, August 8, 2025.

Approximately 10-12 work hours are expected each week, generally flexible depending on the demands of the week’s programs or off-site trips. The intern can expect to work additional hours during Key Program Dates listed below. The intern is welcome to have other regular work, volunteer, or school commitments as long as it doesn’t interfere with internship commitments and Key Program Dates.

Key Program Dates

● June 9-13: Vacation Bible School
● June 22-15: Mission Trip to Hinton Life Center ● July 18: Fish Fry
● July 27: Back to School Kick-Off

Sample weekly schedule:

● Sunday mornings, 8:30 am – 11:30 am

● Sunday evenings, 4:30 – 7:30 pm

● Weekly meeting with the Director of Youth Ministries, 1 hour, TBD

● Special Events/Trips, TBD

CompensationInterns receive a $3000 stipend for the 10-week commitment. All travel expenses for youth trips will be covered including room, meals, and activities. All contact work with youth such as lunches, movies, monthly activities, etc. will also be covered.

Selected candidates will be invited to participate in an interview, conducted in-person or over Zoom.

The preferred application deadline is Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
