Job Title: Director of Music Ministries
Location: Cumming First United Methodist Church – Cumming, GA
Job Type: Full-time flexible with some evenings and weekends
Position Summary:
Cumming First United Methodist Church seeks a passionate and experienced Director of Music Ministries to lead, grow, and expand our vibrant music programs. This multi-faceted position includes serving as the church organist; directing the chancel and handbell choirs; giving support, leadership, and possible participation in contemporary music ensemble; and developing new music ministry opportunities for persons of all ages and musical abilities. The forty rank Randall Dyer and Associates Organ company installed the three manual organ, Op. 82, in 2003 with some adjustments in 2008. It is on a moveable platform and is a beautiful accompanying as well as a solo instrument.
Key Responsibilities:
• Organist – providing organ or piano accompaniment for all music elements in all worship services including Sunday services and special services (Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, weddings, funerals, and church events).
• Chancel Choir Director – Build and maintain a strong chancel choir encouraging spiritual and musical growth among the members; rehearse and direct the chancel choir for traditional worship services selecting music that aligns with liturgical themes; plan and execute special music presentations for the Christmas and Easter seasons.
• Handbell Choir Director – Recruiting and leading the handbell choir through weekly rehearsals, selecting appropriate music for worship and special services.
• Contemporary Music Leader – Collaborate with musicians, vocalists, and clergy to create engaging and inspiring contemporary worship experiences overseeing the selection and rehearsals of such music.
• Expand the Music Ministries of CFUMC with persons of all ages and abilities and reach into the community to develop community music ministries.
Qualifications and Preferred Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Music, Church Music, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Strong proficiency in organ, piano, and choral conducting.
• Experience leading church music programs across a variety of styles, including traditional, contemporary, and children’s music.
• Familiarity with the theology and worship traditions of the United Methodist Church.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work well with diverse age groups.
• A heart for ministry, strong organizational skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
Salary:
• In the range of $75,000-$85,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications
